Located inChengdu, the capital city of Sichuan, Urban Vocational College of Sichuan isthe product of a 2007 merger of two former colleges of Sichuan NormalUniversity: the Information Technology College and the Foreign Affairs College. In 2008, the college was officiallyregistered with the Ministry of Education. It is now a private vocationalcollege funded by Sichuan New Conception Education Investment Co, Ltd. and itis a standing member of the Chinese Association for Non-governmental Education.
With a totalplanned development area of 216.7 acres, Urban Vocational College of Sichuancurrently covers 136.8 acres. The college consists of two campuses: Chengducampus and Meishan campus. The Chengdu campus covers an area of 82.7 acres,with a floor area of 276,000 square meters, while the training centers cover anarea of 62,974 square meters.
More than 50training centers have been constructed, including for vocational education(with federal support) and for construction trades (funded by the ConstructionDepartment of Sichuan province). Training centers for engineering, forautomobile repair, and for tailoring have been jointly established with theprivate sector. The training centers cover an area of more than 60,000 squaremeters. Urban Vocational College of Sichuan has established cooperativerelationships with more than 500 businesses and constructed more than 180off-campus training centers. The librarycovers an area of 12,600 square meters and contains over 941,000 books.
UrbanVocational College of Sichuan boasts 349 full-time teachers and staff, with atotal faculty of 613 qualified full-time and part-time teachers. Fullprofessors, associate professors, teachers with master’s degrees or above, and teacherswith dual professional degrees account for two thirds of the teaching team.Additionally, 100 part-time teachers also teach for other universities andnearly 300 part-time teachers also work in the private sector.
UrbanVocational College of Sichuan offers 45 academic programs covering 10professional fields: finance, electronic information, construction, tourism,manufacturing, textiles, food, public service, transportation, and art design& media. The total student population is 14,000.
UrbanVocational College of Sichuan consists of 5 departments: Economic Management,Architectural Engineering, Automobile and Information Technology, PublicService, and Art Design. The college also has an office of political &physical education and an office of international programs, as well as 11administrative and teaching support offices. Further, there are two researchinstitutions: the Private Education Research Center and the Institute for CityDevelopment.
In 2011,Urban Vocational College of Sichuan was named an “Outstanding Chinese Private College”. In 2013, it was further honored for its excellent post-graduationemployment rates, as well as being recognized for outstanding teachingachievements.
